Starting Transplants
Well we have been busy planting seeds and starting transplants to put in the garden. It's a busy season already. We've been under a burn ban so we haven't been able to fire up our charcoal maker. I need the charcoal to go in the beds we're building. It is a wonderful soil amendment that helps build organic matter and increases the soils capacity to hold water. It is raining today for the first time in a while so I hope they lift the ban. Ronny has been working on making up some cold frames to use so that we can get plants in the ground early. We are starting our Spring CSA in March and need to get a jump on some of the plants that take longer to grow. The cold frames he has built so far are working great. The plants are snuggled away from the freezing temperatures. We do have to pull the frames off when the temps get warmer but it is a small price to pay to be able to plant a few weeks early. Well back to work.
